Akira from the manufacturer Akihabara Electric Corporation Ltd (Singapore) is known since the 90s. CRT televisions with a kinescope 14, 20, 21 inch diagonal were popular in the mass market due to the low price and relatively good image quality, compared to domestic-made TVs.
At that time, Akira had no specialized service centers, and the guarantee obligations to customers were taken over by stores in cooperation with repair organizations in the regions.
Akira TVs usually did not create great difficulties for repairmen, since they were made according to standard circuit design based on a basic set of components that were supplied to the Russian market in a wide range.
Typical defects in Akira TVs with CRT
Frequent malfunctions of early-release Akti CRT-TVs (90s) are usually associated with electrolytic capacitor faults and, as a result, the failure of the power supply module elements or the horizontal sweep
Later Akira models differ from their predecessors by the lack of reliability of control circuits. The most frequent cases of malfunctions associated with the failure of the processors or software failures.
The kinescopes used in Akira TVs have always been quite reliable and there are only a few cases of their failure.
If the Akira CRT TV does not turn on at all and does not blink with control lights, or the control light is on, but there is no image and sound – the fault is usually in the power supply module or in the lower-case scan of the TV.
Repair for the master is often uncomplicated and quite possible at home by the customer.
Typical defects of Akira LCD TVs
External manifestations:
The TV makes attempts to enter operating mode and can turn on only after repeated such attempts.
Power module needs repair. The defect progresses every day, as a result, the TV will not be able to turn on at all. Timely repairs are usually easy for the master and limited to replacing the capacitors of the secondary rectifier filters in the AC / DC power supply converter.
External manifestations:
TV does not turn on at all. There is no indication by indicator lights. The power module is faulty, often on TVs with diagonals of 26 “or more, the defect is connected with the output and failure of the elements of the PFC node (CMC – Power Factor Corrector). The defect is usually eliminated at home by the customer.
External manifestations:
No image, there is sound. Malfunction of the inverter – power converter backlight lamps TV. On televisions with screen sizes less than 26 inches, the defect is usually easily fixed at home by the customer.
Strongly do not recommend owners to make independent repair of TVs, without having the appropriate qualifications, knowledge and skills.
